Field results
"We did not have room for a traditional multistage orifice. We added the Restrict Flow orifice plates since they were compact... They worked well and solved the problem with the pumps."

The problem

Cavitation isn't a property of the restriction. It's a property of the pressure profile.

At high differential pressure, local static pressure at the vena contracta can fall below the fluid's vapor pressure. Vapor forms, travels downstream into pressure recovery, and the bubbles collapse, typically against pipe walls, valve trim, or downstream components. The result is the noise, vibration, and progressive material loss seen in cavitating service.

The traditional response, staging the pressure drop across multiple orifice plates so each stage stays above vapor pressure, works, and remains the right answer for many systems. But it carries cost: longer assembly envelope, internal wet welds requiring inspection, and more potential failure points across the line.

Anti-Cavitate Orifice Plate™

Single device pressure reduction

The Anti-Cavitate Orifice Plate™ is Restrict Flow's proprietary Anti-Cavitate technology. The plate's internal geometry is not disclosed publicly. In service, it is engineered to manage pressure reduction while mitigating damaging cavitation behavior, with pressure drop occurring across one device. The plate fits between standard flange faces.

Each plate is custom engineered to the customer's specific flow conditions, fluid properties, pipe and flange specifications, materials, and applicable design code.

Common applications
  • BFW pump discharge cavitation
  • Pump discharge cavitation
  • Boiler blowdown service
  • Flow control valve protection
  • High purity water systems
  • High differential pressure service

Industries served

Restrict Flow engineering supports power piping (B31.1), process piping (B31.3), marine applications, and government nuclear processes including Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, and safety review participation.

Engineering Approach

How we work

Every Anti-Cavitate Orifice Plate™ is sized, specified, and stamped with serialized identification for a specific service. Our engineering team works directly with your plant or design team from system data submission through manufacturing and installation guidance.
