Cavitation control in industrial liquid systems

Industrial facilities often rely on restriction devices, valves, and flow-control points to manage pressure and flow. Cavitation risk depends on how sharply pressure is reduced, how velocity changes through the restriction, and how the fluid behaves at operating temperature.

Key considerations

  • Variable fluid properties. Temperature, viscosity, specific gravity, and vapor pressure can all affect cavitation behavior.
  • Localized pressure drop. A system may have acceptable overall pressure while still producing low-pressure zones at restrictions.
  • Maintenance patterns. Repeated wear near valves, fittings, or downstream pipe sections can indicate uncontrolled cavitation.
  • Application-specific review. Industrial systems should be evaluated with actual pressure, flow, line size, and fluid data.
